Cotract With America, Part Deux

Developing Thursday…

New GOP Contract focuses on taxes, spending, homeland security

The Republicans’ new Contract with America, which will be unveiled on Thursday, calls for a crackdown on government spending, repealing the new healthcare law and extending all of the expiring Bush tax cuts.

The House GOP’s “Pledge to America” vows to “dedicate ourselves to the task of reconnecting our highest aspirations…by keeping faith with the values our nation was founded on, the principles we stand for, and the priorities of our people.”

Some of the points that are going to prove quite a challenge are…

… tackles job creation, “out-of-control” spending, repealing and replacing “the government takeover of healthcare,” government transparency and homeland security, among other issues.

So far, this is exactly what the true right wants to hear.

Some bullet points listed under the subheading “our plan” include “keeping terrorists out of America,” imposing a net federal hiring freeze on non-security related federal employees, cutting Congress’s budget, reducing spending to “pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels,” and ending government control of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

All of which sounds good. One concern I have is the “keeping terrorists out of America” part, considering that there is probably already a decent sized contingent within our borders. After all, Mohammad Atta and his band of merry men were here living normal looking lives for how long before the attack? Obviously, this feat would require at least the closing of our northern and southern borders and implementing tighter screening. The next challenge would be squelching out the noise from the southpaw of democracy Marxism whilst the clock was rolled back on their voter base.

Obviously, the goal and timing is to follow the model of Newt Gingrich and the subsequent takeover of the House that followed. Whether or not it works remains to be seen. The rumblings have been that a takeover by conservatives would not necessarily allow a repeal and fix of the damage created by the Obama administration. The thought states that any fixes that happen will win over the will of the people, at which point the credit would immediately be stolen by the Prez, shoring up his chances for reelection.

I’m interested to see what the reaction is to the new GOP Contract when it’s officially announced. I’m sure the left will either jump all over it or embrace it so as to secure higher ratings in the polls. As far as the media is concerned, well…
